Aldi is moving into the former Winn-Dixie on Socrum Loop
A longtime Winn-Dixie space in North Lakeland is being retrofitted into an Aldi grocery store.
The grocery building at 6600 Socrum Loop Road N is being converted from a Winn-Dixie into an Aldi. City permits describe a roughly $2 million retrofit of the existing store, along with interior demolition, a roof recover, new wall and face-change signage, electrical work, and fire alarm and sprinkler updates. The permit paperwork references "Aldi #0664" and "Aldi #318," and Aldi wall signage has already been permitted.
Work is well underway: the main commercial building permit was issued in June 2026, early-start interior demolition was issued in May, and fire protection permits were issued through early July. The property is owned by the Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Kentucky.
A Planned Unit Development application tied to this address ("Aldi #0664 - Lakeland FL") was filed in January 2026 but later withdrawn, so the project is proceeding as a retrofit of the existing store rather than through that rezoning.
