GrayLineX wants four industrial acres at Lakeland's southern edge

A company called GrayLineX is asking the county to allow industrial use, with limits, on about four acres at Lakeland's southern edge.

GrayLineX LLC is asking Polk County to redesignate 3.81 acres from residential-suburban land use to industrial. County minutes place the site south of Poley Creek at Lakeland's southern edge, near the Mulberry line. Two cases travel together: the land-use map change itself and a companion code amendment written to limit how intense the industrial activity on the site can be.

The Planning Commission approved both pieces on June 3, 2026, and the county commission held a first reading on July 7. At that meeting, the county's land development director said the area already has non-residential uses and isn't practical to develop under the current residential rules. The applicant of record is Tom Wodrich, AICP; Planning Commission minutes list GrayLineX LLC as the owner.
