A stretch of I-4 through Polk got a fresh surface
State crews resurfaced I-4 between SR 33 and CR 557 (Old Grade Road), a job now marked complete.
The Florida Department of Transportation resurfaced about 14.5 kilometers of Interstate 4 (State Road 400) between SR 33 and CR 557, also known as Old Grade Road, in Polk County. The work was handled by Preferred Materials Inc. under a contract valued at roughly $1.27 million.
The contract was let in January 2021, with work beginning in late March 2021 and an estimated completion of December 2022. FDOT's work program records list the project's construction status as complete.
This was a resurfacing job — new pavement on an existing highway — rather than any change to lanes or interchanges.
