Lakeland Linder International Airport, South Lakeland

Lakeland Linder Airport is filling in with new buildings, hangars and an Amazon lot

A steady run of permits on the city-owned airport parcel covers an Avelo village, a $2.6M aviation hangar, Amazon EV chargers and an admin remodel.

Lakeland Linder International Airport sits on a single city-owned parcel off Don Emerson Drive, and over the past year it has seen a cluster of construction permits rather than one big project. Records name a new Avelo Village building (about $680,000, since finaled), a Double M Aviation hangar at 4575 Airport Perimeter E (valued around $2.6 million, since finaled), Amazon Retail electrical work and EV chargers, a second-floor administration renovation (about $431,000, issued), and food-service work tied to Sora Eatery and the Warbird Food Court at Sun 'n Fun.

A separate Concept Plan filed in early 2026 for a "Holdroom Expansion" β€” the gate waiting area on the passenger side β€” was later withdrawn, so that particular expansion is not moving forward under that filing. The rest of the airport work spans new buildings, fences, fire-protection systems and signage, much of it already completed and some still active.

All of the permits list the City of Lakeland as property owner, and most work was done by Register Construction & Engineering. Because these filings share one parcel, this card describes the airport as a whole rather than a single development.

What happens next

Several permits remain in the issued stage, including the second-floor admin renovation and channel-letter signage, while the withdrawn holdroom-expansion concept plan would need a new filing to move forward.
