Lakeland Linder International Airport

A wave of building is reshaping Lakeland Linder airport

City-owned Lakeland Linder International Airport has seen a run of new hangars, an Avelo facility, restaurant work and terminal upgrades — while a plan to expand the passenger holdroom was withdrawn.

The land at 3900 Don Emerson Drive is Lakeland Linder International Airport, owned by the City of Lakeland. Over the past year a cluster of commercial permits tied to the same parcel shows steady construction across the airfield: a new "Avelo Village" building valued at about $681,000, a $2.6 million Double M Aviation hangar on Airport Perimeter East, parking-lot canopies, new fencing, and electrical work for an Amazon Retail installation including EV chargers.

Inside the terminal, a second-floor administration renovation worth about $431,000 was permitted, along with fire-protection and sign work. Food-and-beverage activity shows up too, with fire-suppression work tagged "Sora Eatery" and an electrical upgrade at the Warbird Food Court tied to Sun 'n Fun.

The one item that carried the airport's name as a formal concept plan — a holdroom expansion, meaning the passenger waiting area — was withdrawn rather than approved. Everything else here is routine-to-major building and trade permitting on the airport campus.

What happens next

Several permits are already finaled, while the terminal admin renovation and other trade permits remain in progress. The withdrawn holdroom-expansion concept plan would need to be refiled before that specific project could move forward.
