An 8.6-acre site near Auburndale gets an industrial land-use label
Polk County approved a comprehensive-plan change turning about 8.59 acres off Recker Highway from Business Park Center to Industrial.
Polk County commissioners adopted a small-scale comprehensive-plan map amendment that changes the future land-use designation on roughly 8.59 acres from Business Park Center (BPC) to Industrial (IND). The site sits north of Highway 542 W, east of Recker Highway, and just south of the City of Auburndale. County records list Zachary Thornton as the applicant and Premier Parking US LLC as the property owner.
According to county staff, the property is next to a railroad line (described as a mainline, not a spur) and is surrounded by vacant and high-intensity uses. Staff and the Planning Commission both recommended approval. At the Planning Commission hearing, one member of the public spoke in opposition and raised concerns about parking and about widening lanes on the busy highway.
The records describe a land-use designation change only. No specific building, tenant, or construction plan for the site is spelled out in these filings.
