Polk County plans a water storage facility on Holly Hill Road near Davenport

Polk County is clearing the way for a potable water storage and interconnect facility, including a 1.25-million-gallon ground storage tank, on about 10 acres north of Davenport.

Polk County wants to build a potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution facility on roughly 9.91 acres east of Holly Hill Road and Sugarwood Street, north of Davenport and Haines City. The plan centers on a 1.25-million-gallon ground storage tank as part of what records call the Northeast PRWC receiving facility.

To make it happen, the county sought two approvals. The first, a Land Development Code subdistrict map change from Institutional-1X to Institutional-2X, was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on May 5, 2026. The second, a conditional use for a Class III utility, passed the Planning Commission on May 6, 2026. No members of the public spoke against either request at the hearings.

The applicant is Polk County itself β€” Facilities Management on the district change and Polk County Utilities on the conditional use β€” with the county listed as the property owner.

What happens next

With the map change adopted and the conditional use approved, the county can move toward designing and building the water storage and interconnect facility.
