Polk County plans a potable water storage and interconnect facility near Davenport
Polk County won approvals to build a water storage and interconnect facility, including a 1.25-million-gallon ground tank, on about 10 acres in northeast Polk.
Polk County is moving to build a potable water facility on roughly 9.91 acres in northeast Polk County, east of Holly Hill Road and west of Del Webb Boulevard, north of both Davenport and Haines City. County records describe a Class III utility for potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution, including a 1.25-million-gallon ground storage tank.
The project cleared two key steps. On May 5, 2026 the Board of County Commissioners approved a Land Development Code subdistrict map change on the site from Institutional-1X to Institutional-2X to accommodate the facility. The day after, on May 6, 2026, the Planning Commission approved the conditional use for the Class III utility.
The applicant is Polk County itself, listed as Facilities Management on the map change and Polk County Utilities on the conditional use. County staff reported no public response to the mailers and signs sent to nearby property owners, and no one from the public spoke at either hearing.
