A County water storage facility is planned near Del Webb in northeast Polk

Polk County is preparing a site for a potable water storage and interconnect facility on roughly 9.91 acres in northeast Polk County, in an area east of Holly Hill Road and Sugarwood Street, west of Del Webb Boulevard and Castellon Court, and north of Forest Lake Drive. County records describe it as a future potable water storage and interconnect facility tied to the PRWC.

Two related approvals moved through the county. A subdistrict map change from Institutional-1X to Institutional-2X was recommended by the Planning Commission on April 1, 2026 and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on May 5, 2026. Separately, the Planning Commission approved a conditional use on May 6, 2026 for a Class III Utility covering potable water production, treatment, storage and distribution, including a 1.25-million-gallon ground storage tank.

At both hearings, staff reported mailers sent to nearby property owners, a posted sign, and a published legal notice, and no one from the public spoke in opposition. At the May 5 adoption hearing, one resident asked for the public records behind the decision.
