Sidewalk and median improvements coming to SR 600 corridor

FDOT is building sidewalks and modifying medians along US 17/92 between Hinson and Johnson avenues.

The Florida Department of Transportation has three projects underway or completed on SR 600 (US 17/92) in central Lakeland. One sidewalk project from south of Hinson Avenue to Johnson Avenue was completed in 2023 with a budget of about $1.1 million. A median modification project between Hinson and McKeown avenues was also marked completed in the state's work program. A third project—a sidewalk on Lee Jackson Highway from Stuart to Baker avenues—shows completion estimated for mid-2025.

These appear to be part of a broader FDOT initiative to improve pedestrian and traffic infrastructure along the US 17/92 corridor that runs through this part of Lakeland.

What happens next

The Lee Jackson Highway sidewalk project is scheduled to complete in July 2025, according to FDOT records. The other two projects are marked completed in the state's work program.
