Pedestrian plaza coming to US 98 between 2nd and 5th
FDOT is building a pedestrian safety plaza on US 98 (SR 35) between West 2nd and West 5th streets.
The Florida Department of Transportation is constructing a pedestrian safety improvement project on US 98 at SR 35, spanning from West 2nd Street to West 5th Street in downtown Lakeland. The project is being carried out by Highway Safety Devices, Inc under contract T1879, with a project cost of approximately $1,022,648.
Work began in December 2024 and is estimated to be complete by late April 2025. The project is listed as construction complete in the FDOT Five-Year Work Program.
