Land near State Road 540A cleared to switch from homes to office use
Polk County commissioners approved a small map change letting a 1.35-acre parcel along State Road 540A be used for offices instead of suburban housing.
A 1.35-acre parcel along State Road 540A got its future land use designation changed from Residential Suburban-X (RSX) to Office Center-X (OCX). The change was requested by Tim Campbell of the law firm Clark, Campbell, Lancaster, Workman & Airth on behalf of IT Land Investments, and it clears the way for office-type use where the county's plan previously called for suburban residential.
The Board of County Commissioners approved the small-scale comprehensive plan amendment at its June 16, 2026 adoption hearing. Land Development Director Ben Ziskal told the board that staff and the Planning Commission both recommended approval, and that the site sits directly next to a church. No one spoke during the public hearing.
A comprehensive plan amendment sets what a property can be used for; it is not itself a building plan. No specific office project, size, or opening date is in the records.
