A 1.13-acre corner near Kathleen and Duff could shift toward neighborhood commercial
Owners want to move a small parcel off Kathleen Road from suburban residential land use into a Neighborhood Activity Center designation.
A roughly 1.13-acre property on the west side of Kathleen Road, south of Duff Road and near Catherine Drive northwest of Lakeland, is the subject of a small-scale comprehensive plan amendment. The request would change the Future Land Use from Residential Suburban (RS) to Neighborhood Activity Center (NAC), and shift the property from the Suburban Development Area into the Urban Growth Area.
The application, filed by Bart Allen of Peterson & Myers, P.A., is described in county records as an expansion of an existing Neighborhood Activity Center. The Planning Commission recommended approval on February 4, 2026, after a hearing where staff reported 33 mailers to nearby owners and no public response. The Board of County Commissioners set an adoption hearing for February 17, 2026.
The records describe only the land-use change, not any specific building or business. A Neighborhood Activity Center designation generally allows neighborhood-scale commercial uses, but the records do not state what, if anything, is planned for the site.
