A commercial land-use change is proposed along Socrum Loop West
A 1.49-acre parcel on Socrum Loop West could shift from low-density residential to a commercial corridor designation.
A large-scale comprehensive plan amendment would change the future land use on about 1.49 acres along Socrum Loop West from Residential Low-X to Linear Commercial Corridor-X. The site sits within several county overlays, including the Transit Supportive Development Area, the Green Swamp Area of Critical State Concern, the Polk City Special Protection Area, and the Transit Corridors and Centers Overlay. The change would open the parcel to commercial corridor uses rather than low-density housing.
The request is being handled by Ryan Behren and Bart Allen of Peterson & Myers, P.A. The county Planning Commission recommended approval on July 8, 2026, and the Board of County Commissioners is set to consider transmitting the amendment at a public hearing.
The records describe a land-use designation change only. What might actually be built on the site is not yet public.
