Which office handles this address?
Polk County has 18 permit-issuing offices on at least six systems. Type an address and this page names the one that covers it, links the official search, gives three plain steps for that system, and says what the office does not publish online โ then lists what is planned nearby.

The 18 offices
Seventeen municipalities and the county. Five towns (Fort Meade, Polk City, Eagle Lake, Highland Park and Hillcrest Heights) issue permits through the county's portal; three cities (Bartow, Dundee and Frostproof) publish no permit search at all; the rest run their own systems. Each link below was opened on 7 October 2026 and is re-requested every Monday.
How the answer is computed, and what this does not do
The address is placed by the US Census Bureau's geocoder, which puts it on the street rather than on the parcel. When the Census geocoder does not answer, the address is checked instead against official local address records: Polk County's public address points (Map_Street_and_Addresses/MapServer/0, the county's E911 site addresses) and, for an address typed in Lakeland or typed without a town, the City of Lakeland's address locator. It is placed only when exactly one place in those records matches the house number and street name typed, and the street type, direction, town and ZIP when those were typed; otherwise it is not placed rather than guessed. That point is tested against the Polk County Board of County Commissioners' municipal-limits GIS layer (Base_Map_Reference/MapServer/1, CITIES, and MapServer/2, COUNTY), fetched 7 October 2026 and simplified to about 241 KB so it can run in your browser. Inside a city, that city; inside no city, the county; within about 490 ft of a line, both, because the limits here run lot by lot and the geocoder's point is on the street.
If the geocoder does not recognise the address, or is not answering and the address records do not settle it (no place matches, or more than one does), the box offers the list of towns instead and says that the city-limit check was not made. An address outside Polk County is called outside, with a link to the Property Appraiser.
What it does not do. It never shows a home, an owner, a code case or a lien, and it never will: those break two of this site's written rules, the Clerk's terms of use and, in places, the county's own access policy. It stores nothing you type. The address goes, through this site, to the geocoder and the address records named above to be placed, and nowhere else; the one other thing the box sends is a count of lookups, with no address attached. The pages say plainly what each office keeps offline, so that silence is never read as a clean record.
